WHAT’S HAPPENING IN TANZANIA?

According to United Nations data, Tanzania ranks 15th among the “least developed countries.” Despite economic progress over the last decade, the country continues to struggle with poverty. Nearly three-quarters of the population live in rural areas, where people face extremely challenging living conditions.

Kongwa, a district of Tanzania’s capital Dodoma, is home to a predominantly Muslim population of approximately 310,000 people. In this rural region where poverty and underdevelopment go hand in hand, lack of infrastructure severely limits access to education and healthcare. The nearest health facility is located nearly 4 hours away by road. This already difficult access becomes nearly impossible during the rainy season. The lack of clean water contributes to the spread of infectious diseases, and even treatable conditions that require only basic medication or minor procedures can pose life-threatening risks due to the absence of healthcare services.

WHAT ARE WE DOING IN TANZANIA?

As Yeryüzü Doktorları (Doctors Worldwide Turkey), we opened the first and only health center in the Kongwa district on July 6, 2025, aiming to improve living conditions for the local population. We also inaugurated a water well to ensure access to clean water. In the newly established clinic, we provide primary healthcare services and create employment opportunities for local health professionals. By supplying essential medical equipment and offering various trainings, we aim to establish a sustainable healthcare service in the region.

The services we currently provide at our clinic in Dodoma’s Kongwa district include:

• Medical consultations

• Treatment

• Maternal and child healthcare

• Medication support

• Vaccination and laboratory services

In addition to these, we plan to expand our services to include childbirth care, especially for vulnerable groups with limited access to healthcare, such as women and children.
