## Sayfa 4

The earth of which we carelessly consume and waste all resources is now crying for
help. Although food production would suffice for everyone, hundred thousands of
people sleep hungry on one side of the earth, whereas hundred thousands of foods
go to waste on the other side. Wounds that would be healed with a simple medication
become fatal on one side of the earth, whereas warnings are made against unnecessary
medication use on the other side. The need of the earth for justice, compassion and
sharing is ever-increasing.
Humanitarian aid cracks a door just with regard to satisfaction of this need. It always
keeps alive, feeds, and strengthens the hopes for compassion, peace, brotherhood,
though it is not able to radically solve the problems of people of the world. However, it
should be also noted that there are very important tasks for all of us so that the increased
interest and desire in our country, especially in the recent years, toward institutional
humanitarian aid is not diverted beyond the ethical limits.
First, there is more to the concepts, such as transparency and accountability. It is required
to make the accredited quality processes stricter, and to manage the perception and
reputation professionally. Furthermore, the need for a mechanism aimed at a closer
communication and coordination among the civil humanitarian aid actors of our country
is ever-increasing. Also, institutional humanitarian aid should be improved in qualitative
terms, and made sustainable and effective in quantitative terms. The culture of “delivering
aid” should be left behind, and efforts targeting capacity development and involving
process development should be emphasized. All these will both improve our NGOs and
avoid the institutional structures which do not befit our country and our people.
Yeryüzü Doktorları (Doctors Worldwide Turkey) worked in 2018 at many places of the
world again with the vision of being the leading and competent NGO in healthcare aid. It
continued proceeding on its way with capacity developing efforts by diverting the main
axis from “delivering from here to there” to “set-up and continuance of the content in
the region in need”. With this understanding, our clinics operating in many countries of
the world tended more wounds. It put a smile on the face of the needy people especially
with the increase in the number and services of our refugee health and nutrition centers.
The earth is better with all our volunteers and donators, who are here for a greater
world, and will become even much better as long as you are here.
Hoping to reach together a world full of more justice and compassion...
Yahyahan GÜNEY, MD
Chairman of the Board of Directors
