## Sayfa 2

As Doctors Worldwide Turkey, after a hectic
but fruitful year, we continue confidently our
journey for health and goodness, with the
support of our volunteers and donors.
Committed to working according to standards of
international humanitarian agencies, our staff is
becoming more professional every passing year.
As a result,we continue our services in areas
such as emergency, preventive health,
therapeutic health, health education,
psychosocial support and capacity development
this year.
Moreover, we are carrying out projects in
collaboration with various charities both in
Turkey and abroad, and we feel that we are
getting closer every day to our vision of
becoming a leading and prominent NGO in its
area.
Humanitarian aid activities in Turkey have
increased promptly following the responsibility our
country took during Somalian Crisis in 2011.
Hosting more than 2 million refugees after the
Syrian Crisis, Turkey is ranked first according to
the amount of aid compared to income, referred as
generosity index and ranked second in the total
humanitarian aid. The role that our country plays in
the field of humanitarian aid and its valuable
mission has bestowed significant responsibilities to
all non-governmental organizations working in this
field. Besides, Doctors Worldwide Turkey in this
crucial context has chosen “Sustainability“ as its
strategic priority. Because, all our activities since
2000 showed us how critical it was to be
sustainable and permanent in aid. In this context,
we have reviewed all our projects that we
completed since our foundation, the partners we
cooperated with on these projects, and our system
of volunteerism and donation, constituting our main
source. Thus, we decided to redesign all these
parameters while taking into consideration
“sustainability“ as our strategic priority.
Our other priority was to “revitalize“ the
humanitarian aid in Turkey and “lead“ new
projects and processes in this area, by avoiding
repeating ourselves and improving our quality
every day. In this context, the new projects
partners and health projects of refugees, funded
by European Union achieved very effective results
as exemplary projects in medical humanitarian
aid.
Of course, sustainable and leading work require
knowledge, experience and corporate know-how.
This requirement has motivated us to work more
professionally and on a corporate level every day.
By increasing our professional employees in
2015, we have strived to develop a more
corporate and systematic structure and by
benefiting from our donor’s valuable experiences,
who devoted their time and effort to our institution.
With no doubt, corporate structure is not an easy
task to achieve in a short time frame through
small moves. Consequently, our efforts to improve
our organizational structure will continue in the
following fields; project management, brand and
image management, resource development,
human resources management, voluntary
relationship management, finance management,
information technology management, etc.
As you may review the details in our Annual
Report, we believe that we have developed
ourselves as well as the places where our activities
took place. As ever, we have strived to deliver
better results with your support, without
compromising our enthusiasm, professionalism and
volunteerism comcepts. You have showed your
kindness by supporting us. Thus, we have once
again been reminded that we are a huge family that
spreads out over the continents with the increasing
number of our volunteers and donors, our
employees and partners. I would like to thank each
of our family members personally, wishing that our
journey that is based on goodness and health
would endure in the following year.
Best regards.

SYRIAN CRISIS
Doctors Worldwide Turkey started
its first practice at the region by
means of meeting the emergency
health needs of the refugees who
had to find asylum in Lebanon due
to the outbreak of the civil war in
Syria.
In the Wadi Khaled district, located
700 m. away from the Lebanese
border, a triage center was founded
in collaboration with Islamic Medical
Association (IMA) Lebanon to
transfer the wounded patients to the
hospitals located in the inner
regions, afterwards, a blood bank
and
a laboratory base were founded in
Dar El Shifa Hospital and a
considerable amount of medication
shipment was carried out.
Furthermore, voluntary health care
teams were also sent to Tripoli.
By installing a pharmaceutical
warehouse in Syria, medication and
medical equipment shipment with
medical materials, composed of first
aid and surgical tool kits was carried
out. Doctor salaries and operational
expenses of the hospital established
in Yamadi region were sponsored
and physical conditions and medical
equipments of the hospital were
improved. With the beginning of the
outbreak on the Turkey border of the
effects of the crisis, health stations
were set up in Yayladagi and
Sanliurfa districts of Hatay. Health
care service was offered in the
camps established for Ezidis in the
districts of Sirnak, Batman, and
Diyarbakir. Moreover, a clinic existing
in Fatih district of Istanbul, by being
used at idle times, was brought into
service for Syrian asylum seekers.

SYRIA NEEDS THAT
DOCTOR
Because of the crisis in Syria which is
in its 5th year, many doctors had to
leave the country. As entering into Syria
from outside and working is too difficult
as well, supporting the doctors who
continue to provide health care service
by staying in Syria has vital importance
on behalf of the weakened health
system. Within this context, Doctors
Worldwide supports the doctors who
continue to give health care service in
Syria with the ''Syria Needs That Doctor''
campaign that it has launched in 2015.
ISTANBUL FATIH CLINIC
Doctors Worldwide Turkey, by using
support of International Organization
for Migration (IOM) and grant of AB
ECHO (EU Humanitarian Aid and Civil
Protection Department), opened a
clinic in order to offer health care
service to Syrians at Fatih Clinic of
Bezmialem University Hospital.
Under this project, in order to provide
free medication, examination, and
laboratory service for internal
medicine, gynecology, pediatrics,
family practice, and general surgery,
9 rooms and the laboratory of Fatih
Clinic was begun to be used by
Doctors Worldwide Turkey between
17.30-21.30 on weekdays and
between 14.30-18.30 on Saturdays.
At the clinic, psychological support
service is also given as a primary
care health service for Syrian
refugees. Information regarding
services given in 2015 are shown in

GAZA CRISIS
Doctors Worldwide Turkey, which supported the emergency health aid needs
occurred following the attacks directed to Gaza on July 8, 2014, launched a
program including projects focused on home care, physiotherapy, and
rehabilitation.
Physiotherapy and Rehabilitation Centers
Installation and Supporting Projects
It was decided to support
existing centers and establish
new centers in Gaza by
considering the number of
people in need of
physiotherapy and rehabilitation
and the lack of infrastructure
regarding this.
Within this framework, equipment
support and financial support was
provided to two physiotherapy and
rehabilitation centers which
continue to give service with limited
opportunities in North Gaza region
and Gaza city.
As of June 2015, a new
physiotherapy and rehabilitation
center was established and brought
into service in Khan Yunis region
which is at the south of Gaza.

Cameroon, Congo, and DR Congo
still exist.
Doctors Worldwide Turkey's Bangui
PK5 Clinic, which was opened on
May 2014 in Bangui, the capital of
the Republic of Central Africa,
continued offering service to the local
community in the first half of 2015.
At the Doba camp, which contains
10,000 refugees, of Chad that
contains approximately 100,000
refugees within the scope of the crisis,
the clinic service that was brought into
use in partnership with Red Cross of
Chad in 2014 had continued until the

Access to clean water is one of the
most important preventive health
services. Waterborne diarrheal

resulting with 1.8 million deaths
annually. Children under five years
constitute 90 percent, in other words,
approximately 1.6 million of deaths.
(UNICEF)
At many regions of the world, people
experience difficulties at reaching
clean water even if they have access
to water. Every year thousands of
adult and children become sick
because of this and there are
people who lose their lives due to
these sicknesses.
Doctors Worldwide, has drilled water

Until January 2013, no institution offered
medicine specialization trainings in
Somalia, where the undergraduate
education on medicine is also very
limited. Consequently, Somalian general
practitioners had to develop themselves
by either going abroad for education or
by monitoring the examinations and
surgeries performed by voluntary
doctors who visited Somalia. With the
aim of contributing to eliminate this
deficiency, Doctors Worldwide Turkey
initiated Somalia Specialization on

School Based Support Program for
Refugee Children (MODP) was
started to be applied and developed
by taking into consideration the
psychological support needs of the
children in Ilaf School which is one of
the schools where Syrian kids receive
education in Istanbul.
Under the project, initially,
psychological screening was
performed to students. The screening
results were evaluated by volunteer
psychologists. The children in need
of psychological support were
detected and groups were formed.
MODP training containing 8-week
sessions created on grounds of
Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT)
approach
was given as a group study by
volunteers of Doctors Worldwide
Turkey Psychosocial Support
Team to teachers who are at the
same school and volunteer for the
study. The Training comprises
various titles such as spiritual
traumas and ways of coping with
them, communication skills and it
lasted 4 full days. Following the
permissions taken from parents, the
trained teachers applied MODP
module to students aged between
9-14 years, who were selected as a
result of the psychological
screenings, as groups of 10, in
company with weekly supervisions
during 8 weeks.
Application of the MODP module by
the teachers to the students reduced
potential relation problems that may
stem from language problems and
cultural differences as well as it
enabled teachers to gain the skill of
applying this module in company
with supervision. Furthermore, it
was aimed that the Syrian teachers
and students would develop
mechanisms for coping with the
traumas they experienced and that
these mechanisms would be
permanent in the long term.

Under the project, which was
developed with the intent of
improving fraternity emotions
between Turkish and Syrian kids and
contributing to social swarming, one
class from a school where Syrian
children receive education and one
class from a school where Turkish
children receive education were
specified and the children in the
determined classes were brought
together with specific periods in
order to carry out various activities.
At these gatherings, various drama
games and activities
selected in a manner that language
differences will not cause a problem
and pictures were drawn within the
scope of the workshops. Young
Doctors Worldwide volunteers and
Doctors Worldwide Turkey
Psychosocial Support Team that had
undergone the psychoeducation
necessary within the project
coordinated all of these games and
workshops.
At the end of the project, the pictures
which are products of the
workshops, were exhibited in Taksim
Subway Station and were visited by
thousands of people.
Moreover, the students who
participated in this project were also
taken to this exhibition and had the
chance to see their own works.
As a result of the project, it was
ensured that the children could
convey their feelings to their works by
gathering around the same art work,
express themselves much better and
discover their talents. Furthermore, it
was contributed to the increasing of
unity and solidarity emotions thanks to
